House Calls

In the world of doing what you have to do, there was a time when I made house calls.

On one such glorious occasion, I found myself banging violently on a client's front door. He didn't have his hearing aids in. Desperate, I went around to the back of his house like a burglar, watching him through the sliding glass doors as he sat peacefully at the kitchen table. I still couldn't get his attention.

On another glorious occasion, a client left me completely alone in his house with nothing to do but stare at a massive, disorganized paper trail—a mess he was deliberately leaving for his wife's divorce lawyer to sort through. He figured if I couldn't make sense of it, no one could.

He was right.

I ended up watching his TV and doing push-ups on his floor. I was younger then and in pretty good shape... at least physically.
